Eclips Salons & Day Spas believe in treating employees as family -- a positive energy that ultimately reflects from
the staff members to their clients. "It's as simple as the old saying: do unto others as you want done unto you,"
explains Diane Fisher, owner of this successful salon chain. "It is important for each of our employees to grow
to learn each client individually." Fisher has held this belief throughout the years and feels that this commitment
has successfully resulted in client retention as well as growth by word-of-mouth.
In June 1988, Fisher opened Eclips Salon & Day Spa in McLean, VA, the first of the Eclips chain of salons and day spas. Just one year later, she opened her second location in Burke, which has since been sold. In August 2000, Eclips Salon & Day Spa expanded into Ashburn, VA and opened with immediate success. One year later, in 2001 a unique third location was added, Eclips Kids Salon & Day Spa in McLean. In October 2005, the McLean location for adults moved into a brand new location, nearly double the size of the original. It occupies its own private floor in downtown McLean and serves as a benchmark for luxury salons and spas in the Northern Virginia area. The Eclips Kid's concept became an overnight success, prompting the opening of their fourth and most recent addition, Eclips Kid's of Ashburn, which opened in May 2006.
Eclips full-service salons and day spas offer everything a client could ask for, from complete hair and nail services to total makeovers, along with a multitude of luxurious spa services, ranging from facials and massages to mud treatments and algae wraps. Service offerings continue to expand, and recently Eclips Spas are equipped to accommodate several medical spa services including laser hair removal, cellulite reduction therapies, and microdermabrasion.
Eclips provides numerous staff benefits and rewards such as paid vacation, retirement plans, health insurance, advanced education and stock options. Interested staff members can even choose to invest and become co-owners of Eclips. This has helped to create and ensure a more unified team spirit, better management controls, smoother operational efforts and much longer staff retention. Eclips salons and spas provide different kinds of training to their staff -- including assistants. Many of these assistants continue in the salon and become hairstylists through the unique apprenticeship program. Eclips regularly sends their receptionists to training seminars as well as sending the managers for management and customer service seminars. They also have staff meetings where participants are open to discuss any topic from purchasing a home to nutrition.
Eclips has been featured in InStyle Magazine along with numerous other national and international magazines. For six consecutive years they have been honored as one of the 'Top 200 Salons & Day Spas In The USA!' by Salon Today Magazine as one of the 'Fastest Growing Salons' in North America.' Eclips makes it a point to participate in at least two to five charitable events every year. The Eclips team has been involved in charities to benefit breast cancer awareness groups, shelters for battered women and homeless children, as well as local schools and church donation drives. Eclips Salons & Day Spas regularly donate money to the St. Judes Foundation and provide free makeup and beautycare products to The Women's Shelter of Homeless & Battered Women.

Diane Fisher began her career in the professional beauty industry as a receptionist in 1974 at Flashback Salon in
Burke, Virginia. While never planning on owning her own salon, she was successfully managing Flashback as it
grew to include multiple locations and a distribution segment. In 1988, when the business was struggling, Fisher
bought the McLean location because she wanted to help the hairstylists who she worked with. Renaming the
business Eclips, this location was her first salon, followed one year later by the purchase of a location in Burke,
which was later sold.
In 2000, Fisher added a brand new location in Ashburn, Virginia with one of her salon partners. This location's interior was built from scratch and included a top-of-the-line spa service area. Shortly after in 2001, Eclips expanded further when Fisher purchased a struggling kid's salon and transformed it to become the talk of the spa industry, re-opening it as a salon and spa for kids 14 years and under. Due to the overnight success of the 'kid's concept,' Fisher has since opened another Eclips Kid's location in Ashburn, for a total of four locations. Future growth seems inevitable!
In keeping with her vision to share her success, Fisher has taken on partners at Eclips. By selling part of the company to dedicated salon and spa staff members, they have the opportunity to become an important part of the company and to contribute to the success of the whole business. Some of Fisher's partners have been working with her since she started as a receptionist.
Along the way, Fisher has been trained in services, including nailcare and makeup artistry in addition to management classes. Every week Fisher rotates her time between the four salon locations and their main business office. Her leadership role as the owner of multiple business locations keeps her very busy. She has never taken an active role as a technician in the salons and spas, yet she does find it extremely important to stay educated in all aspects of the business.
Highly respected within her salon peer group, Fisher has a very strong relationship with other salon owners. She is always willing to share what she has learned to help others succeed and is an active member of TSA, speaking at many of their events. Fisher was also a presenter at Beauty Fusion, sharing her knowledge of the industry. For six consecutive years, Salon Today Magazine has recognized her hard work, as Eclips is consistently recognized as one of the 'Top 200 Salons in the USA.' Additionally, several well respected beauty industry magazines such as DaySpa, Les Nouvelles Esthetiques and Dermascope have all looked to her for advice on running a successful beauty business.
With the help of her staff, she continually looks for new products and services that will make their company better as well as making aesthetic improvements to the locations. Her goal is to continue to sell the company back to the staff and help them reach their personal, financial and career goals. Fisher has seen the positive effects of multiple locations, including being able to keep staff and clients as they move around the Northern Virginia area.
Not only does Fisher consider many of her salon staff as family, many of her family members are part of the Eclips business. Family is always on hand to help with anything the business needs, including modeling at Eclips photography sessions.
